The Serpent Mirror

On the approach of twilight, beware...
As the serpent's dance may make you captive of the sky...

Shot on a surprising afternoon's end.... the skies were stormy and the light could barely penetrate the thick layers of dark clouds. Still, I went out with my camera, searching for the usual display of beauty that feeds the soul and the earth, hoping for a decent capture. From the window of my car, time was flying, and the hidden sunset wouldn't show his face till the sun reached a very low position, radically changing every element, now touched by a warm and intense light. I hurried for the beach near me, and this was one of the captures of that day.

This time I used a tripod, remote release shutter cable, ND Grad filter and a long exposure of 4 seconds, as well as a very small aperture of f/22. And of course, let's not forget I also used a LOT of wet sand and water inside my shoes!

The main idea here was to keep a strong diagonal line that would lead the viewer into the intense sunset. Of the three bracketed images I made, I chose the one that was a bit under-exposed, as it did greatly enhance the water reflections interacting with the sun.

As to post-processing, vignetting was added, some colour balance adjustment, levels tweaking and final framing.
