I know I have been quite inactive the past month, alot of private stuff going on and upcoming exams, but I will try to be more active again from now on. Microsoft Employees Disrupt Wii U Best Buy EventsRemember how Nintendo was showcasing some of their E3 games at participating Best Buy stores around the country? Well, apparently Microsoft employees have been hired to go to these events and preach about the Xbox One and make comments like "why would you buy a outdated Wii U when the Xbox One is right around the corner?"
However, the employees aren't getting what they hoped for. Most customers just start bashing the Xbox One in response. Seriously, Microsoft, the people attending these Best Buy Wii U events are people who are intimately familiar with the crap you pulled at E3. They ain't takin' your shit.
At first I thought this might just be a case of one really loyal Microsoft employee taking matters into his own hands (especially since the original source was /v/), but reports have come in from numerous Best Buy's around the country that indicate many Microsoft employees have ambushed the demo lines trying to persuade people to switch to the Xbox One.

Please Pants Responsibly (Paper Notebooks FTW)

There are two ways to write a novel. Plotting (you make an outline, a plan, a roadmap if you will, and then you sit down and write it) and pantsing (you write "by the seat of your pants, throwing caution to the wind). So when I get asked if I'm a plotter or a pantser, I'm all like er, uh, hold on, let me? Pantser? I think? But I kind of, um, do planny things?
And it gets kind of awkward because in these inarticulate moments I have managed to confuse everyone including myself. And probably spilled a drink.
In recent discussions, however, I've had a bit of a revelation, silly as it is. I've realized that I -- like many writers -- am a plotter/pantser hybrid. And perhaps what I'm doing is something we could call Pantsing Responsibly. And, maybe, just maybe, I could share some of my responsible pantsing tips with other writers. Starting with paper notebooks.

The Used Game ParadigmOver the course of this past generation I've been watching the video game market react to the way it's been forced to deal with increasing changes. I've come out against used game sales and even written a journal about boycotting GameStop because (like most people at the time) I believed they were the root cause of all the problems the video game industry has. But that's something I don't believe now as intently as i did then. From where I sit, piracy and used games sales are a problem, but not in the way game companies want us to believe that they are.
Used games are a good thing for consumers. We get to try games out, and if we don't like what we see or finish it early, we trade it in and try another title instead. It's a very good system for us since video game rentals are much harder to come by. SPIKE updatesJust thought I'd share with you guys some updates on the progress of finishing my "SPIKE" novel.
A lot of people have asked me how it's going, when it will be published and stuff. I really appreciate getting asked these things because it shows that people are actually interested in my writings, and that it just such a great feeling

I've got two news for you guys today though: one bad news and one good news. Let's start with the bad news.
I haven't finished writing SPIKE yet.

As usual I don't want to spoil too much, but there is a part in the story where Spike and Sam are separated from each other for quite a long while. Hello dear watchers:

I'm one of the many who stopped using this website, except for the ocasional photo submission. I´ve spent hundreds of hours here, and I´m sad to see this site die, in what concerns photography.

I just went to the popular page right now, and I barely see any photographs there. I hadn´t check the popular page for months, and I think it´s a good demonstration of how things are around here.

How, and why, did Deviantart turn into this?!

For me personally, I don't think I've been on here in at least a year. This is pretty much because other things have taken priority in my life (excellent grades to get into a post-grad program vs. having fun with the camera). Photography ultimately won't pay the bills for me, and a doctorate will. Sad, huh?

I totally agree with you. I too used to spend hours on this site and then my watchers and friends started decreasing the time spent here and started using other sites such as Flickr, Google + and Redbubble.

I feel as if the quality of images has decreased on Deviantart.

The downfall of Deviantart probably started when kept making all the changes to the site ie sharing, points, stupid llamas etc

The amount of nudity and pornography has seemed to increase as well. I'm not against nudity when it is artistic and tasteful and I actually watch a few very talented photographers that specialise in nude portraits.

But this is happening from at the least, year 2005. Quality of popular pictures is each year worst, and I think that's probably because of people more than the website, which reflects the popular desire. I think you're referring to porn and/or stupid pics?

I'm not sure what has been said on this blog before, but the fact you're seeing less photography than a couple months ago is due to a recent change to the displaying algorithm that enhances fair exposure. In the past situation, there were a number of disciplines that were not shown as much due to the smaller size of the disciplines in question.

yeah, it makes me sad too to sew what DA is turned into. i think it is because most of the people on here as become immature asses and don't respect one another, including the DA staff themselves sometimes which in turn turns a lot of people away.
